Mentis Statum is a mental health charity based in Norfolk, UK created by Ali Law, to help spread awareness. The charity sells branded clothing items to raise money for charities such as Mind. They also partner with artists to create one-off clothing designs, with all proceeds going to a chosen charity. A new funding opportunity, meant Ali was looking to revamp his existing website, and make some branding improvements - in the hope of growing the business and awareness. Ali’s existing site was hosted with Shopify using a free template, and he decided to remain on Shopify, as he felt comfortable with the plaform.
I delivered comprehensive brand development and guidelines, including an example rollout, and flyer design. I designed, built, and converted a new ecommerce website using Figma, Relume, Webflow, Udesly, and Shopify. Additionally, I created Canva templates (to ensure the client could continue managing it) for social media use, accompanied by a guide on strategy and social optimisation. As a result, I improved the overall brand messaging and appearance, receiving positive feedback from the community. The new website became a more valuable resource, offering support and community engagement along with a product range. This enabled the founder to find more direction on social media and re-launch their activity.
I carried out research into all e-commerce platforms - to assess whether it made sense to continue on Shopify, or try something else. I found that designing the site in Webflow, and converting to Shopify was the best combination for this situation - where I was carrying out a lot of the work pro-bono, but wanted a great looking result for the client.
To assess how to improve the website and the brand, I carried out extensive target persona research.
I worked with a fellow freelancer to develop a new concept for the brand - 'Keep Going' with the introduction of a semi-colon into the existing logo - to convey the overall message of sticking around and continuing to fight each day.
To accompany the new brand icon, we created a set of brand patterns, a new colour palette and font pairings. I created thumbnails, designed in Figma and created it in Webflow. To make the site operational as a theme in Shopify, I carried out a a conversion with Udesly and finalised the set up directly on Shopify.
